Club Minutes

                         January 9, 2014


This meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Club President Bob Walker, N4CU followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the invocation.



The meeting was conducted by Club President Bob, N4CU. There were 15 members and two guests present.


Secretary Report:

December minutes were provided by Ron, KI5FR and posted on the W4AAZ.ORG website.  There was one change made to the December minutes.  The Activates report was presented by Bob N4CU because Cal W4GMH was not in attendance. Glenn, K4GAG made a motion to accept the minutes as amended, 2nd Dave, WB4EWS and approved by membership.


Treasurer Report:

Dave, WB4EWS provided the treasurers report.  This report was accepted by the membership.  Mark, KA5NDH is the new treasurer with Dave, WB4EWS (outgoing treasurer providing guidance).  Mark can perform all treasurer functions accept write checks.  Mark will assume all treasure duties once he provides his signature at the bank.  Mark collected the annual dues at this meeting.  Bob, N4CU proposed the payment of the June power bill ($311.05) at the Dorcas fire station (Club site).  NOARC has a verbal agreement to pay this bill for use of the building during the year.  Bob, W5ER made a motion to pay the bill, 2nd Richard, KE4BFX.  After discussion of the motion it was agreed to amend the motion to pay this bill annual without further membership approval.  The amended motion was set aside until Cal, W4GMH talked with the Fire Chief and established the correct amount.  Bob, N4CU requested $55.54 to pay for NOARC Ham of the year award presented to Ron, KI5FR.  Richard, KE4BFX made a motion 2nd by Mike, KK4KRZ and approved by the membership to pay for the award. 


Repeater Report:

Steve, N4GXX was not present but the repeater is working. Bob, W5RE said during several QSOs on the 147.360 machine the repeater failed to identify itself.  This will be investigated.  Ron, KI5FR said the tower on Eglin AFB hosting the VHF, UHF and APRS amateur repeater has been condemned.  The Air Force has given permission to use the roof of building 350 for re-hosting the VHF, UHF, and APRS repeater.  Ron said it will require about $600.00 to complete the move.  The antenna on the condemned tower will be abandon.  New antennas and cables/hard line will be needed.  If anyone can provide supplies, equipment, or money donations, please contact Ron, KI5FR (


Station Report:

Richard, KE4BFX said the station is working.  Daniel, KK4VAX as the new station custodian said he completed an inventory of all station equipment.  He also said he repaired one Jumper cable.


Training Report:

Ron, KI5FR said that a General Class is being planned but no date has been set.  Bob, N4CU recognized a young guest (Boy Scout) seeking a radio merit badge.  Bob committed NOARC to assist any area Scout seeking a radio merit badge.  Please contact Ron at if you have any questions, concerns or comments about training.


Website Report:

Phil, N6COP was not in attendance but sent word the Website is all up to date.  Mike, KK4KRZ said he would contact Phil to make the needed changes to the December minutes as approved.


SYSOP Report:


 None given


ARES Report:

Tony, AK4ZI said a review of the equipment at Okaloosa Emergency Operation Center, (EOC) showed problems with transmission lines and requires attention.  Tony asked for volunteers to assist in making repairs to the College Blvd. EOC station.  Daniel, KK4VAX volunteered.  Others wishing to volunteer can contact Tony, AK4ZI 


Activities Report:

Cal, W4GMH said almost all the club community events occur in October, November, and December.  He thanked all those who participated in Race for Lace, Fall Festival, Veterans Parade, and Christmas Parade in Crestview.  There were from 10 to 14 club members present at each event providing communication.  The 10th Annual Blackwater, Bluegrass, and BBQ Cookoff (Triple B Festival) will be held in downtown Crestview on the 29th of March from 10am to 6pm.  Details of NOARC support will be provided later.  Volunteers can contact Cal   In addition a number of QSO parties and contests will be held through-out the year with NOARC participating in at least one a month.   The next event is the North American QSO party held on the 18th of January from 1200 hrs. to 2400 hrs.  Ron, KI5FR is heading this up at the club station and will be there starting at 1100 hrs.  The club W4AAZ will have two stations operating at the same time.  There are no sign-up times for operators all are welcome at anytime.  Cal said he will send links to QSO and Contest websites in his next newsletter.   Bob, W5RE said there is a chicken picken event at Falling Waters State Park for Hams on March 8th.  Contact Bob at for more information.  Hamcation will be held in Orlando on the 7th 8th and 9th of February.  This is the largest Hamfest in the southeast and worth the trip.  More information can be found on the web by entering Hamcation.  If you have your request for ticket post marked by 18th January you will save two dollars off the price but more importantly you will not have to stand in the long lines at the gate.

New Business:

Bob, N4CU presented three items.  1. Members please sign condolence card for long time club member Luie Holland, W4UVI who became a silent key (past away) this week while sitting at his home station.  2. Former member Chayne Sparagowski, KI4WBN sent a carved wooded plaque for the Club Station W4AAZ.  This was sent as a thank you for club mentorship while he was a member (We took a group picture with plaque after the meeting to send to Chayne). 3. Have the treasure compile a list of income and outgoing expenses to determine an operating budget.   Mike, KK4KRZ volunteered to rewrite the club by-laws and provide a draft for member approval.  Daniel, offered to assist.  Anyone wishing to assist in the rewrite of the club by-laws or have suggestions please email Mike at   Mike will send drafts via email as changes are made.  Richard, K6SSD made a motion 2nd by (Unknown) to raise the yearly club dues from $20.00 to $25.00.  After discussion the motion was tabled until the treasure report is provided with expenses and incomes.


Motion to adjourn was made by Glenn, K4GAG, 2nd by Mike, KJ4FNA and carried unanimously with no opposing votes.
