Activities Report:

Cal, W4GMH was not present but next event is the Crestview Christmas Parade.  The following is information reprinted from October activities report and should be accurate.  On Saturday the December 7th is the Crestview Christmas Parade.  NOARC has been asked to provide communication.  This is the largest Parade in Crestview. Volunteers include Jim AJ4XK, Bob W5RE, Bob N4CU, Richard KE4BFX, Mike KJ4FNA, and Ron KI5FR.  More radio operators are needed.  Meet at the intersection of Main Street and MLK at 4PM.  The Parade starts at 6:30PM and support is needed to 8PM. Starting frequency is 146.555 (this may change).

NOARC members take an active role in the running on this parade.  As parade entrants begin they are assigned a number.  This number must be affixed to the entrant and communicated to the judging stand along with a description of the entry.  Keeping these in order is a challenge.  In addition it has been suggested that exiting entries proceed to side streets in an orderly fashion and not stop at end of parade to unload.  Stopping at the end stops the entire parade.  Keeping these entries moving to their designated side street will also require communicators, working with Crestview Police and parade staff.

NOARC was commended by the Crestview Fire Chief and Organizers of the RACE for LACE for their communication support on November 2nd.  NOARC was also commended by the Organizers of the Veterans Day Parade held on November 11th in Crestview.  13 NOARC members supported the event.

Bob, W5RE made three recommendations following the Okaloosa County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Simulated Emergency Test (SET) on October 12, 2013 at 9AM.

1.There was no formal announcement that a test was going to be conducted.

2.Calling stations where not always identified.

3.The frequency of operation was not given during the announcement or during the SET.

4.During the SET the fact there was a simulated emergency was not provided enough.

5.Messages were not given in the standard NTS format. (Bob N4CU said some messages followed the ICS 213 format but did admit the message traffic was not consistent)

Bob, W6VVA suggested more cooperation between the three main Ham radio clubs in Okaloosa County.  A discussion continued about provided a DSTARS node in Fort Walton Beach.  Bob, N4CU said the problem is finding a suitable location on a high enough tower with internet access.  Bob, W6VVA said he would attempt to organize a forum between the three clubs for the purpose of discussing common issues.  This may take the form of a NET, Skype, or face to face meeting.  Bob, W6VVA will contact the other two radio clubs in Okaloosa County.

Bob, W5RE wanted the club to recognize two club members as achieving Life Membership Status. After discussion Bob, W5RE made a motion to grant EY Mock, WB4CDR and Lew Bowers, KA4KMP Life Membership status. This will entitle EY and Lew membership without payment of any dues. Mike, KK4KRZ 2nd and carried unanimously to accept the motion with no opposing votes.
