This meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Club President Bob Walker, N4CU followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the invocation given by Sharon, KJ4TPQ.
The meeting was conducted by Club President Bob, N4CU. There were 21 members and 2 guests present.
July minutes were posted on the W4AAZ.ORG website. Ron, KI5FR made a motion to accept the minutes as posted, seconded by Bob, W6VVA and approved by membership.
The Treasurer was given by David, WB4RWS and approved by membership.
Steve, N4GXX reported was not present but members reported there have been no problems with the repeater.
Richard, KE4BFX said the station was active and the five new telephone poles have been erected on the property adjacent to the station. Ron, KI5FR said in a recent visit to the station, the antennas had not been disconnected from the radios. There was a discussion by several members on procedures in place for station operation. Bob, W6VVA and Mike, KK4KRZ asked about checklists, station operation logs, and instructions for radio/station operation. After discussion between many members it was decided to draft checklists and instructions and post these at the station. In addition it was suggested to conduct a station radio operation during Tech-Night. Cal, W4GMH and Bob, N4CU will coordinate the documents. Ron, KI5FR will work the 440 radio procedures, Bob, W6VVA the 940 radio, Steve, KJ4RWD the 2 meter Icom and BOB, N4CU the 735.
Ron, KI5FR said he has continued to receive interest in conducting a General and Technician class. A local church group has expressed an interest in taking the next technician class for use when they provide relief efforts. Ron said he will conduct the next class in October but no date has been set. Any persons wanting to attend a General and/or Technician class please contact Ron at email@example.com. Ron said NOARC presentation at the Crestview Library “Talk to the World with Amateur Radio” was a success. Several attendees talked on Ham radios and a satellite contact was made. Steve KJ4RWD, Mike KK4KRZ, Bob N4CU, Mark KA5NDH, Steve N4GXX, Bob W5RE, and Glenn K4GAG assisted in the presentation.
Phil, N6COP, Webmaster, was not in attendance. However, the website is up and working. Bob, N4CU said the repeater frequency chart on the web site has been updated.
Cal, W4GMH said the club will be supporting several activities this fall. In October NOARC is looking to support JOTA “Jamboree on the Air” Scouting event on the 19th and 20th. The 4th weekend in October is the Fall Festival and NOARC has been asked to assist in communication. On the 7th of December is the Crestview Xmas Parade which NOARC provides communications. Finally, on November the 3rd is the Crestview Race for Lace (cure for Cystic Fibrosis). Please contact Cal, W4GMH if you can assist in any of these events.
Bob, N4CU requested the club obtain an antenna tuner and dummy load. There was a discussion on type, power level and cost for the antenna tuner and dummy load among the members. Most members wanted at least 300 watt capacity. Cal, W4GMH made a motion that four club members, who are attending the Huntsville Hamfest (17th and 18th August) obtain the tuner and dummy load at the best price. Ron, KI5FRT seconded the motion with option to consider online purchase if best price cannot be obtained at the Hamfest. The motion was approved by the membership.
The North American QSO party is on the 17th and 18th of August. Bob, W6VVA will be the primary and Jim, KK4MRQ will be secondary in organizing the QSO party at the club station. QSO party will start at 1 p.m. local on the 17th and end at 1 a.m. on the 18th (12 hours). Also attending are Mark KA5NDH, Glenn K4GAG, Ron KI5FR, Steve KJ4RWD, and Alex KC7MEX. A Motion to adjourn was made by Mike, KJ4FNA and seconded by Steve, N4GXX and carried unanimously with no opposing votes.
