November 11, 2010
This meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by club President Bob N4CU followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the invocation.
The meeting was conducted by Club President Bob N4CU. There were 11 members present.
Minutes for the October meeting were posted on the W4AAZ.org website. A motion to accept the report was made by Glen W4GAG. The motion was seconded and carried unanimously by a show of hands to accept the motion with no opposing votes.
The treasurer report was presented by Bob KI4MEU. A motion to accept the report as read was made by Glen W4GAG. The motion was seconded and carried unanimously by a show of hands to accept the motion with no opposing votes.
The repeater report was presented by Steve N4GXX. The repeater is working well with some interference being noted. It could be a couple of things. However, the weather needs to cooperate for further investigation. It could be filters, it could be water in the line and it could be D-Star interference.
The training report was presented by Ron KI5FR. Navarre has requested another Technician class in January 2011. There will be more information passed as to date, time and location.
The website report was presented by Phil N6COP. The website W4AAZ .org is working well. There is information online pertaining to Okaloosa Digital Operators Group "ODOG" D-Star website as well, http://odog.n4gxx.org/
There was no station report presented.
The ARES report was presented by Bob N4CU. In the future, anyone looking at purchasing a new radio, might want to research and buy a D-Star capable radio. The reason is Okaloosa County shelters are going to D-Star. Radio’s were purchased for the shelters but have not been exercised. Hopefully there will be county exercises scheduled in the future so that we all get to understand the functionality of D-Star and that we have a county frequency list for uniformity. Practice makes perfect.
Cal W4GMH discussed the Christmas Party scheduled for December 17th, 2010 at the North Baptist Church at 4681 Highway 20, Niceville. This location is the same location as last year. As in past years the food will be “POT LUCK.” Bob N4CU will be e-mailing a list of items that need to be brought. Hope to see you all there.
Bob N4CU was interested in the number of folks who made an attempt at either fabricating or purchasing an oscillator attenuator for fox hunts. Bob W5RE is working at building one from his spare parts boxes. There appears to be interest but little movement. This will be discussed at future meetings.
New business was discussed by Cal W4GMH. The county has presented to our organization a project to dismantle a 30 year old tower located in Fort Walton. As in the past if we dismantle we can sell parts for our treasury. The issue that will derail this project is safety. The entire south side of the tower is extremely rusty and might not support the weight of two men attempting to loosen bolts and then we don’t have a boom truck big enough to lift the sections. One thing we can do is present this project to someone in Pensacola who might want to take on this project. We will advertise this project showing good will at assisting the county in getting the tower dismantled and removed. Safety is our biggest concern according to our Elmer’s.
Bob N4CU made a motion to adjourn the meeting. The motion was seconded and carried unanimously by a show of hands with no opposing votes.
