March 12, 2009


The meeting started by a prayer led by Chayne-KI4WBN and the pledge of allegiance.


Attendance:  There were 16 members present.


Secretary Report:

Minutes for February 2009 have been posted on W4AAZ.ORG website. Motion to accept the minutes as posted was made by Richard-KB4BFX and seconded by Richard-W4RLR. Motion approved by a show of hands, no opposing votes.


Treasurer Report:

Bob-N4CU, reported expenditures for February 2009 of $120.00 to the Dorcas Fire District. Deposit of $320.00 for Membership dues. As of 02/28/09 bank balance is $1,410.14.


Repeater Report:

Cal-W4GMH, reported there is still noise on the repeater. We are going to change the position of antennas. D-star will be a dual antenna for 2meter & 440.


Training Report:

Ron-KI5FR, reported no training information to date. He did discuss having a General class training which would take about 2 to 3 weeks.


Website Report:

Phil-N6COP advised Bob-N4CU the website is in good condition.


Ham Committee:

Doug-KI4YKK, reported that he is still working on the New Ham Information.


Station Report:

Cal-W4GMH, reported that the ham station is up & running in the cabinet.  Steve made the shelf, Cal added the shelving door to the cabinet, which he then sanded and stained.


Activities Report:

Activities Director Cal-W4GMH led a discussion of upcoming events we are scheduled to participate in.


Blackwater Bluegrass & Barbeque, this Saturday 03/14/09 on Main Street.

Several members signed up to work during the event.  They would utilize a simplex frequency of 145.535 MHz to communicate.  Doug Simms-KI4YKK will be the contact person, and Bob-KI4MEU will be the net controller.


PARC Hamfest at the Fairgrounds, in Fort Walton Beach, on 03/21/09. Jerry-N8PXE will take the banner and set up our table.  Steve-W6EOD will bring some of the late Paul R. Machlan Sr. (WA5MET, now a silent key), equipment to sell as part of his estate sale.


Scout-O-Rama, at Fairgrounds on 03/28/09. Richard-KE4BFX is contact person.  Antenna set up is at 3 PM Friday.


Saturday in the Park in Valparaiso, on 04/25/09, and will set up antennas at 3 p.m. on Friday.


Field Day, June 26-28, the last full weekend in June.


Dayton, Ohio Hamfest, 2009 on May 15th - 17th.


Scout Jamboree, 3rd Weekend in October.


Old Business:

Richard-W4RLR made a motion to raise the club dues to $20, Seconded by Doug-KI4YKK, to raise the club dues to $20.00 in January of 2010. Discussion was opened by Bob-W5RE.  Cal-W4GMH moved to amend the motion to have tiered dues of $12 and $20.  General voting members would pay $20.  Members in support of the repeater would pay $12, Seconded by Richard-KB4BFX. 


Amendment approved by show of hands.  Motion approved by a show of hands.


New Business:

Motion by Cal-W4GMH, Seconded by Richard-W4RLR, to support the Women's Club of Dorcas.   They are planning a bake sale at the Dorcas Fire Department.  We will join their function as a joint Club ham event.  Motion approved by show of hands. 


Bob-N4CU discussed ARES registration forms.  If you volunteer for a disaster communicating for the Red Cross they insure you. If at Okaloosa county EOC, the county will insure you.  If you go to another state or district you need to get a Tracking Number from ARES so they can insure you.


Motion to Adjourn by Richard-KB4BFX, Seconded by Chayne-KI4WBN at 7:40 p.m.


After a short break, Bob-N4CU had a slide show of Digital Signal Processing Fundamentals.


Bob-W5RE showed a homemade CW key, which will be used by Steve-W6EOD this weekend at a field expedition.
